SU-122-44 Russian Premium Tank Destroyer Review (Part 2)

Welcome to part 2!

Going to try and keep this a bit shorter.

The armour, as said in the comments of the previous blog the armour is 175mm thick (With the angle that is).
This tank is a campy snipy tank that loves to sit at the back (Unless its in a tier 5-6 game then hell, go for it). But when in tier 7-9 games you definitely want to sit back a bit and let your scouts do the scouting (Who would have thought of that!) Watch out of hitting your heavies though as it can be a bit of trouble sometimes - that's why i recommend not sitting too far back but try and keep our of sight and in a good bush.
Another thing that i noticed about this marvelous machine is it is VERY low profile. Its about the height of the Stug - maybe a bit taller so sitting behind walls is not a good idea (You wont be able to shoot but you will still be high enough to be shot).

The best equipment for this tank is a gun rammer, camo net and a gun laying drive. At least thats what i use to maximize performance out of this beast. For crew skills - Commander (Sixth Sense), Gunner (Deadeye), Driver (Clutch braking) and The Loader (Safe Stowage). For the next set you will need to Jack Of All Trades on the commander, repairs for the gunner and loader and off-road driving for the driver.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for tomorrow's post.

SU-122-44 Russian Premium Tank Destroyer Review (Part 1)

Tier 7 Premium Russian Tank Destroyer

Hey tankers, today i will be reviewing the SU-122-44 Russian tank destroyer.

This review will be a bit more in-depth for this tank (Over the SU-100Y)

First lets talk about the armour, this armour is strange in such as it is very well angled and not half bad thickness (Not great). Don't expect to be bouncing shots from anything too soon. You may get a few lucky bounces here and there but definitely don't rely on it.
The next part to this tank is the engine, keeping it short - its quite fast and maneuverable, that being said it has a horrible speed when backing up.
The gun depression is well....Russian and obviously not very good.
The accuracy is better than most Russian TD's but still make sure to aim before shooting.
On the topic of the gun though, its a monster. I may even say OP but don't want it nerfed. with a 6 second reload (With a Gun Rammer) it can tear up an opponent quickly. I have found this tank does 270-400ish damage.
It is a GREAT sniping tool as well.

Stay tuned for Part 2 (Internet cut out)

SU-100Y Russian Premium Tank Destroyer Review

Hello tankers, sorry about the lack of posts lately. I should be able to keep a steady stream of content now!

Ok with that out of the way, i would like to talk to you all about the Russian Premium Tank destroyer.

First of all ill start off with the cons

Cons -
There is no armour at all.
View Range is absolutely horrible.
Reload time is...long.

Pros -
Apocalyptic gun
Loads Faster than the KV-2
pretty darn fast.

All that being said - it gives you a pretty good idea of how it plays.

Very much worth it.

World Of Tanks "Story"

Sorry to everyone who reads this blog usually as i have been working on a project. This shows the life of a tanker and his very interesting story. You'd look at the idea and think its weird - trust me, it took a lot of time thinking about it. It shows a person sort of transforming into the game and it feels like he is actually in the tank with the other crew members. There is adrenaline pumping shots that fire at super sonic speed towards the small tank in front of them.

This will be able to read in "Chapters" each day on the blog (Wont replace normal news).

So be prepared to join this action packed story.

We are also looking for editors, writers and artists who want to help out voluntarily.

Have fun and keep your tracks rolling.

Why New Players Should Not Care About There Win Rate.

I've noticed a slight change in the player base. People seem to care a lot more about their stats, the overall performance in game while still being beginners, 'noobs'. With only a few thousand battles you shouldn't judge yourself by stats. And neither should anybody else. That's something I dislike to see nowadays, people act like jerks and are rude if their team consist of 'noobs' and XVM says that there's 'only' 45% chance of winning. F the numbers. That attitude will drag the team down even more.

The main thing is that you should be advancing and getting better all the time as a World of Tanks player. Stats don't tell you that directly with small numbers of matches played. There's a huge number of tanks which will drag down the overall win rate if you aren't doing well while grinding through them. On the other hand, there are some tanks that will enable you to perform very well even you weren't the best player, like KV-1 with it's big damage output. 40 total fail games in AMX 40 will affect a lot in the stats with a thousand battles played overall but the more battles you play, the less those bad battles will make difference in the end, as long as you just keep improving your gameplay.

So there's nothing to worry about if you can't improve your win rate in low tiers during the first few thousand battles. Some tanks just are 'handicapped', meaning that there are naturally weaker tanks and they take their time to get adapted to. To balance the bad tanks, every tech tree has some very strong tanks that are worth the grind of some downright awful tanks. Every one of us were noobs when we started playing World of Tanks. There's no point sharing the hate down to the noobs of today. Let's accept a new positive way of looking our fellow tankers, they will learn the essence of this game earlier or later.

Artillery, To AP or Not To AP

Artillery – To AP or not to AP.

Artillery.

We all love playing it (from time to time). Who doesnt enjoy the thrill, the power of watching your foes from above, lobbing shells at enemy tanks blissfully unaware that they are about to lose 1000 damage or more and have their turret, gun and gunner knocked out all in one hit?

Yep, its a great feeling when it all goes right, as you watch enemy IS8s get one shotted from full health and there is not a thing that the enemy can do in retaliation.

For those who havn't played artillery, here is a quick rundown.

Personally, I didnt play until probably 2 or 3000 battles into the game. I thought it would be specialised and difficult.

My very first game in the Russian tier 2 artillery I netted 3 kills, I was impressed. It was fun and easy to use.

The plus side is that you get to shoot at your enemies from afar, you can see them and they cant see you.

The down side is that in some maps, it's very hard to find a target, as all the enemies can be hiding in cover. Also, your shots take a quite a while to land, so often you target moves before the shell you fired arrives. It's also inacurate, what looks to be a sure thing garuanteed hit, often somehow manages to miss anyway.

And of course, as we all know, when it comes to close combat, artillery can be close to defenceless. Slow traverse, horrible aim time and very long reload means that once you have one shot at your enemy, your are all but dead already (although there are French artillery pieces that get to fire off a number of shots in succession, however, this is followed by a very long reload).

Personally, the only artillery piece I have now is the tier 10 Object 261. This is reasonably accurate for a tier 10 piece, its fairly fast moving and the reload is decent at around 30 seconds. Damage is ok, not great but ok. This damage can be boosted however, by firing AP rounds.

Armour Piercing rounds are the standard rounds on most tanks up to about tier 9.

When they hit the target, they either penetrate and do damage, or they bounce if the armour is too strong for them.

Most artillery use HE rounds as standard, which explode.

The advantage of this, is that artillery shots often don't land exactly where you aim them, and the explosion from HE shells is likely to still do some damage even without directly hitting the target.

If you do hit the target with HE, unless you are very lucky and hit a weak area, the damage for the 261 is around 500 or so.

If you manage to hit and penetrate with an AP round, then the damage can be anywhere from about 1,200 to almost 1,600. However, the drawback is that if you miss, you dont get anything at all, you then have to wait about  30 seconds for your next shot. And even if you do hit, the round can still bounce off highly angled, or strong armour, or even get absorbed by the tracks and do no actual damage other than making the target stop.

In a recent game last week, everything went right, I killed 6 targets, I damage 9, and all up I did 7,919 damage.

This was the best game I have had in this artillery piece yet. And still I did not earn the much vaunted “Mastery” badge. Such a shame.

“What do I have to do”, I thought, “to earn the mastery badge”.

“I know” I will load 9 AP rounds, and the rest Premium HE rounds – that is the only way I will ever have enough damage potential to earn the badge.

Well, the next game taught me a serious lesson about the flaw in relying on AP rounds.

2 HE shots did damage.  6 AP rounds missed their targets, despite being almost always perfectly aimed. One AP round hit the wrong target that was almost dead anyway, and killed it. And finally, the last shot of the game, on a perfectly aimed stationary target hit the target, but bounced harmlessly off.

You can see the video here

It was comical in it's ridiculousness. A total waste of time, and shows why AP rounds are only effective under certain conditions, and in general cannot be relied upon. If I had used HE instead for most of these shots I would have done significantly more damage.

So here are my personal quick tips on how and when to use AP rounds in the 261.

You should only use an AP round, when you are sure that you are going to hit your target. If you are firing at a small, or fast moving target, AP is probably not your best bet, unless you are the gambling type. If you target is far away, over the other side of the map at maximum range, AP is not a good idea. Your aiming circle is just too large at these ranges and you cannot be sure you will hit even a large target.

In general, the target should be, at maximum, half way across the map not really any further. The target should be stationary, and unlikely to move until your shell arrives. A heavy tank who does not know he has been spotted is a perfect target. Also, the target should have a lot of hit points, if he only has 500 health remaining, a standard HE round will be enough to finish him off, without running the risk of a total miss, bounce of failure. The perfect targets for AP rounds are large and slow. My favourites are the Maus, E100, and JPZE100. These targets, even if they become aware you are aiming at them, still move so slowly, you can easily predict where they will be in a couple of seconds and score a hit. Also, if you have the side or rear of a large target, AP round is perfect and is very unlikely to ricochet off without causing damage.

Lastly, if you know that you will be attacked at close range and you have to shoot a target directly who is not especially fast and agile, such as a heavy tank or slower medium. AP rounds can be a perfect ambush option.  If you are not going to have time to properly aim your shot and be sure of a hit, then HE is better, as you do not need a direct hit in order to cause damage.

Hope you enjoyed the read, and got a laugh out of the ridiculous effort to to damage with AP in the video, and Ill see you on the battlefield.

The Aim Of World Of Tanks

So you just started World of Tanks. You have no idea how this game works. You don't know which tanks to buy and research.

But one thing is for certain, you play this game because you like ARMOUR.

Take a look at the extreme right of the German tank tree. You see this gigantic squarish tank called the Maus.

That, is what you want.

The name "Maus" means "Boss" in ancient Greek, and that tank is what its name says. It takes hits like a boss and dishes out damage like a boss, with amazing 200/185/160 mm thick armor and 150cm cannon. It contains more power than a battleship - battleships float on water, this thing is even heavier so it sinks in water.

But before getting the Maus, you will need to research the tanks before it. But fear not, beginner, these tanks are very beginner friendly, and you get to play a good mix of light, medium and heavy tanks to learn the game quickly.

The line starts with light tanks. You reach the highest-tier light tank at tier 4 - Pz38nA, which is also the best light tank in the game. Amazing agility and gun penetration, this little bug can zoom into the enemy lines providing valuable intel for your team, while netting a few kills for itself.

Tier 5 and 6 gives you the medium tanks PzIV and VK 30.01 (P), the famous tanks that fought in WWII. Oh did I mention that all tanks in this tank line fought bravely in WWII? More reason to get these tanks. The size of VK 30.01 (P) may be huge, but this is compensated by lots of HP and heavy-tank-level weaponry. It is essentially a heavy tank, but moves around so fast, it is classified as a medium.

From these tiers onwards it is all heavy tanks, right up to the tier X tank Maus. And once you get a tier X tank, you can participate in Clan Wars and win in-game gold! You want to play CW as soon as possible, so your first tier X has to be a Maus, which is always demanded by the clans due to its powerful performance.

World Of Tanks Xbox 360 Edition

After playing an examining the game, i decided that its a great game! There are only a few bugs, that being artillery loads way too fast and they are a bit OP compared to other tanks. You will only find 1 or even 2 Artillery in a game though - making it more balanced. The other tanks provide a lot of fun in game and its most definitely a very fun game. The worst bit is the control of the vehicle controls as they are a tiny bit unresponsive. At the start i had a large amount of gold, i think this is a feature to give the players a taste of the gold and then luring them in to buy more. Gold does not feel like it wins games like on the PC edition.

Graphics.
Graphics deserved there very own title as they are STUNNING, i am not kidding they are totally amazing as soon as your gun fires it sends of a spinning bullet with a line of smoke barreling after it. The worst graphic is the bushes, and they are not even that bad.

Bugs.
There was actually a small amount of bugs in the game which made it obvious they spent a lot of time on the game - making sure its finished. As i said, the steering, its just a bit hard to reverse out from incoming fire of a T18 when you are having these random moments when you freeze. Maybe its just my Xbox 360 but i don't think so. Another big thing is that the spotting is way off. I may fire from a completely different hill and they will see me from the other side of the map even when in shrubbery. So the spotting needs to be completely refurbished.

So that's really all i have too say about the game. Great but could definitely be better.

1945 Jagdpanzer 38T Hetzer For Sale?!?!?!

I was gliding around the internet in my ELC AMX when i found a site that sold tanks! I looked at it and a certain "Hetzer" came to my eye. There it was. A fully operational Hetzer that was delivered to the USA in the 1970s. It was from Skoda Productions and is a very very rare find. There are only a few German Hetzers left in existence. This one being even more rare with the original Praga AE gasoline engine and air filters! This is one of the most "Complete" hetzer left. With all parts fully working. Once bought and delivered you could practically drive it around in your back yard! (Even though it might be a bit big). The hull is German and it is stamped. It has a full box of original gun sights and the also original Fu5 radio. All other Hetzer's that compare with this one are in a Museum! This tank would most likely sell for 155k+ so you'd better start saving up! http://www.milweb.net/webvert/69960  Hetzer Tank Destroyer

Newcomers "Angling" Guide

Welcome to my new part of the blog for newcomers. They will learn everything they need to know to get to that mighty tier 10 heavy tank. But before speeding away they will need to learn the basics. Here they are.

In the world of tanks tutorial they don't tell you everything. They tell you a lot but not everything, another important feature of the game is angling your armour towards the enemy for max use and effect of your 90mm frontal armour.

So when head on with another tank you want to angle your armour 45 degrees towards the enemy. This will make it a better chance of the tank infront of you bouncing straight of that cold steel plate. If that does not work your tracks will most likely absorb it.

Artillery Thoughts

Post 5# 4/01/2014 1:07 PM
OPINION 1 (Mr. Hummel Driver)
Now everyone has there own opinions on artillery these days. Some of us either hate them or love them. But now for the people its completely turned around. After the artillery Nerf, they are near useless i think now that they should have a bit more power not just TOO much power. The old games where adrenaline pumping - rushing form building to building and rock to rock to try and not receive a hit kill from an artillery.

Wargaming has gone and thought that just because a lot of players want it nerfed that means that we should Nerf it more because more people want it dead. What they would have done was limit it, but not as much. Artillery now is just a nice kill for some kid in a Pz. 38 na. That being said i find that as bad as torture, just waiting for your death by that small Leopard that is running up the right flank. If they are gonna nerf artillery like that then why isn't every other type of tank nerfed?

OPINION 2 (Mr. KV-1S Driver)
I love how the artillery have been nerfed. Now i can drive around crazy shooting those teeny tiny scout tanks with my over powered gun. The only thing that can get in my way now is a TOG....Darn beasts should be nerfed i say! ahh but that's for another day. What i have come to talk about is why i think artillery should stay nerfed. Before the artillery were nerfed i actually was scared when going through open spaces with little bits of cover. But no all i hear is bounce bounce bounce and boom boom boom. Instead of tiktiktik from being de-tracked. Now those rascals have been put to order and can no longer threaten me. They are just scrap metal for my gun to shoot through. Great fun to blow up! Its better for me anyway and now i am happy.

My Opinion. I agree with Mr. Hummel Driver as he does not just care for himself but other tanks as well. Saying its meant to be average not overpowered and not "Under Powered". All of you drivers of non SPG's should be a bit nicer to your neighborhood artillery and not treat them like You usually do.

World Of Tanks Xbox 360 Beta!

Post 3# 4/01/2014 10:01 AM

A few weeks ago i heard about world of tanks coming to the Xbox 360. Right now as i download it i wonder is it any good? From what i understand - if they do it right that is. It will be an extremely fun game! For some reason they are promoting artillery more than other tanks - scouts also have a bigger "Boom". As i see more pictures of them and artillery. Heavy tanks and TD's are basically non-existent in the photos.

If anyone has played please tell me how it is right HERE

The only thing is. I don't think artillery will be very fun for the Xbox 360 as aiming and other features may limit even more than it is.

Also i am wondering if they are gonna have the same tech trees/tanks in the game or if they are going to change it up a bit.

The next big thing is premium/gold/premium tanks etc. Because it is already for Xbox live gold members anyway -which is a cost. Also how is it going to compete with other games on the Xbox? is it going to make a profit. That being said - i heard war thunder was coming to the Xbox 360 as well.

We will just have to see how it plays out. Ill give a bit more detail on the game once it has downloaded.

World Of Tanks March Of The Nations!

Post 2# 4/01/2014

Around this holiday time, our wargaming staff have put out there special "March of The Nations" discounts, and as they are released we get lovely discounts from that nation! Yay!

I have noticed that by getting 100k XP for all nations gets you an IS-6 Premium Tank from the Soviet Union which is a massive grind but most likely worth it. With that in mind, don't get hung up over that grind, remember to still enjoy world of tanks like it should be without all the rage and throwing keyboards out the window from being killed by an arty.

I would also like to wish you all a Happy new year and a Merry Christmas (Even though i am a bit late for it).

World Of Tanks Patch 8.10

Post 1# 3/01/2014

Today, i will be talking to you about the new patch 8.10 of world of tanks. This update introduced the Japanese tanks. A full line of mediums scouts and heavies. This line includes no artillery or Tank Destroyers So if you prefer those types of tanks you miss out this time. I found there tier 1 tank to be quite strong as i used it in the training room with a friend to try it out. I have seen reviews of the tanks but to me they don't look as good as i thought. The scouts and mediums at the start of the line are quite close in armour values so i would prefer the scouts as they must be a faster and smaller target.

Another big thing that came in this update is the better graphics and i can tell you. They are stunning. Maps look completely different from when they are on low and minimum. The only reason i don't use them is that i get significant lag even though it says i can run it. I would trust auto-detect if i was you.

The new map hidden village is actually not that big as the mountain area is not able to be used as it is to steep and rugged. This means that it is actually a lot smaller map then we originally thought. I have noticed from my small amount of play time on this map that the city is a great way for light tanks to get around the back of the enemy on the hill and shoot them in the back as not a lot of tanks go that way. I saw that they changed the tech trees a bit but i cannot see the difference. If anyone would like to enlighten me on any information about that please tell me here.
